Improving breastfeeding support through the implementation of the baby friendly hospital and community initiatives: a scoping review protocol

Background: Improved breastfeeding practices have the potential to save lives of over 823,000 children under 5 years old globally every year. Exclusively infants for first six months would lead largest infant mortality reduction. The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) is a global campaign by World Health Organization and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), which promotes best practice support in maternity services. Community (BFCI) an extension BHFI’s 10th step Ten Steps Successful Breastfeeding BFHI overall. Its focus on community-based supports women. There been no known attempts synthesise overall body evidence recent years, synthesis empirical research BFCI. This scoping review asks question: what about implementation BFCI globally? Methods analysis: This will be conducted according Joanna Briggs Institute methodology reviews. Inclusion criteria follow Population, Concepts, Contexts approach. A data charting form developed applied all included studies. Qualitative quantitative descriptive analysis undertaken. In order address equity access BFHI/BFCI, Levesque et al. (2013) health care framework used as lens analyse charted relation this aspect review. An already established group stakeholders with experience feeding policy Malawi consulted, obtain expert views findings review. Conclusion: establish gaps current inform areas future initiative.
